Everything you need to know about Baby Health Care

Common Baby Problem – Vomiting

It's normal for healthy baby to regurgitate a little food. Vomiting in a well baby who is gaining weight, having plenty of wet and soiled nappies and is reasonably settled is nothing to worry about. However, if vomiting is associated with a yellow colour, weight loss, fever, screaming, a change in bowel motions or loss of interest in feeding, see your doctor.

Some baby have quite a lot of vomits in the first year of life, due to gastro-esophageal reflux. If the baby is growing well, does not cough or wheeze and does not seem to have pain from the reflux, then it may not need any treatment. If you are concerned about the amount of reflux, ask your health nurse or doctor about thickened feeds and other measures to reduce reflux. This problem usually settles as babies spend more time upright and begin to eat solid foods.

Common Baby Problem – Constipation

Exclusively breastfeed baby is rarely constipated, but, between six weeks and three months, the number of time they poo decrease until some babies are only doing two a week. many mums get worried at this point and believe the baby constipated, but constipation refers to motions which are hard, dry and difficult to pass, not to the frequency of bowel motions.

If your baby starts on formula or any other food, his motions may change and he may get constipated. If this happens, check that the formula is being prepared correctly. If your baby is constipated, try adding some extra fruit juice (of the type specially prepared for babies). If not consult your doctor.

Natural Medicines for Baby

Many parents at some time will use a so-called natural medicine for their baby. Usually these medicines will not cause harm and may, in some cases, be helpful. If your baby is being treated for another condition, it is important that you tell your doctor that he is also on a natural medicine.

Natural medicines for babies and children often contain ingredients like calendula, chamomile and echinacea. These ingredients have been used for hundreds years in formulas to help soothe the pain of common problems like colic, teething, pain, and colds. Natural medicines should only be used when your child has mild or moderate symptoms. Once your child begins to recover, you no longer need to keep using them. As with most type of medicines, talk to your doctor before using them for babies under six months old.

Natural medicines should not contain alcohol, sedatives, aspirin, paracetamol or any artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.
